Most Anticipated Video Games of 2018

2017 was an amazing year for video games, with many great releases across all platforms. Game releases in 2018 seem to be possibly better than even 2017. Here is our top ten most anticipated games of 2018!

Mega Man 11

Mega Man 11

It has been awhile since a proper Mega Man title has been released. Mega Man 11 will use 3D models, but it will feature the same classic gameplay the series is so well known for. Mega Man 11 is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this year.

Anthem

The latest project from Mass Effect team appears to be some kind of Destiny-style live game. Using exosuits, called Javelins, players will team up to battle giant monsters in vibrant, otherworldly landscapes. Javelins will be customizable and offer different playstyles. The in-engine footage that was shown at EA’s E3 press conference last year looked visually very impressive.

Detroit: Become Human

Detroit: Become Human

Detroit: Become Human is the latest game from designer David Cage, known for his narrative focused games.  Detroit is a neo-noir, adventure game featuring three playable android protagonists in a volatile society where tensions between humans and androids are high.

God of War

‍God of War

This reboot of the critically-acclaimed Sony franchise brings the series protagonist, Kratos, to a world of Norse mythology. In addition to the new setting the gameplay looks more akin to an action role-playing game, as opposed to the character action-style gameplay of previous games in the series.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

‍Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

The original Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch was a collaboration between Japanese game developer Level- 5 and the animation house Studio Ghibli. The result was a beautiful looking role-playing game with an interesting real- time combat system. Unlike its predecessor, which was a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Ni No Kuni II is coming to the PC as well.

Skull and Bones

‍Skull and Bones

This looks like an expansion of the pirate ship battling gameplay of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. You take on the role of an up-and-coming captain during the Golden Age of Piracy. Skull and Bones features solo, competitive, and cooperative pirate-plundering action complete with ship customization.

A Way Out

A Way Out

A Way Out is a cooperative only prison escape game that can be played locally or online. One of the coolest things about this game is its dynamic cinematic split- screen presentation. Another major selling point is a “Friend Pass” that allows your friends to play online with you for free. So if you’re like me, and you have stingy friends who refuse to buy new video games, you can still enjoy A Way Out without having to invite your friends over.

Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 looks like it’s taking on a more serious tone with topics like racism religious cults. From what we’ve seen so far it looks a lot like what you’d expect from Far Cry game, but takes place in rural Montana, which is a departure from the more tropical and exotic locales featured in previous games.

The Last of Us Part 2

The Last of Us Part II

The Last of Us took a familiar post-apocalyptic setting and told an incredible story with its compelling and believable characterizations. It was such a focused and complete story that I was initially a little skeptical when they announced a sequel. However, developer Naughty Dog has proven their ability to make meaningful sequels time and time again.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Read Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest games of all time and probably the best game of the previous console generation. We don’t know much about this game other than the fact that it is a prequel starring a new protagonist, but given Rockstar’s outstanding track record it’s likely to be one of the best games of the year.
