Half-Life 3 Confirmed?

Some Background

The Half-Life was initially released in 1998 and it quickly became a landmark in video game history and is viewed as one of the most influential FPS (first person shooter) ever. The game managed to sell over 8 million copies and won over 50 “Game of the Year” awards. Mods of Half-Life, such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress also became wildly successful, had multiple sequels and became classics in their own right.

Half-Life 2 continued the story of Half-Life’s antagonist Gordon Freeman. Released in 2004, the game managed to meet fans grand expectations and sold more than 12 million copies. Since its release fans have been avidly waiting for news about Half-Life 3.

Fan’s wild anticipation for the next installment in the franchise even became a meme.

Hope?

As reported previously PCGAMER and Digital Trends,  Gabe Newell, the founder of Valve, Steam and Half-Life has announced that his video game studio Valve has multiple games in development. Amongst the games in development is a card game called Artifact.

Artifact is the first of several games that are going to be coming from us. So that’s sort of good news. Hooray! Valve’s going to start shipping games again,” Newell said.

This will be Valve’s first release since 2011’s Portal.

While in the same Reddit AMA Newell later said, “The number 3 must not be said.” In reference to Half-Life 3, many fans continue to hope for a sequel. While Newell did shut down any speech about an official Half-Life 3, he did not rule out another game based in Half-Life’s universe.

We hope to see great games from Valve available in Game Protocol’s game store in the future.
